MB57 Motor Brake
For NEMA 23 motors with double-ended shafts
The motor brake is a safety lock for axis drives. It prevents unintentional movement of the machine when switched off, especially in the event of a power failure. The Z-axis is particularly susceptible to this, and a gradual drop can occur, especially when using a heavy milling spindle—with potentially fatal consequences when switched back on.
The motor brake prevents such movement by means of a brake disc that is spring-loaded when idle. When the operating voltage of 24 V is applied, the brake is released electromagnetically, allowing the axis to move freely.
